What does Strategic Tax Stewardship involve?

I call used to jokingly call myself a tax janitor because the title I held has never mattered to me and there are a lot of similarities between the roles.  A janitor cleans up messes, leaving a space cleaner, stronger, and safer than they found it. I felt that’s what I did, but just with tax. 

However during my colourful career spanning nearly 2 decades, and my experiences as both client and adviser has allowed me to realise that whether an organisation is scaling fast, navigating a merger, or simply in need of clarity, they are in need of a tax steward to step in and bring structure, stability, and security.  

So think of it like this – a janitor is helpful to clean up historic messes but in order to move from firefighting and to mitigate future tax risk you need someone to guide you, who can be your steward. 

We live in a world of ever-changing regulations and complex reporting requirements, tax functions are under immense pressure.
